Since the first COVID-19 cases were diagnosed and the pandemic changed the ways in which patients were able to access traditional health care settings, providers were required to navigate significant challenges to ensure their services were still able to reach millions of patients. In response, Congress and the Administration granted various flexibilities intended to improve access and facilitate the delivery of safe, quality care. As health care providers reflect on lessons learned and plan a post-pandemic course for the future, it is evident that several of the flexibilities have enhanced the patient experience and led to better outcomes.
Regulatory Advisory: Hospital Inpatient PPS Proposed Rule for FY 2022
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) April 27 issued its hospital inpatient prospective payment system (PPS) and long-term care hospital (LTCH) PPS proposed rule for fiscal year (FY) 2022. The rule affects inpatient PPS hospitals, critical access hospitals (CAHs), LTCHs and PPS-exempt cancer hospitals.
AHA shares recommendations to prepare medical supply chain for future emergencies
To strengthen the nation’s medical supply chain for future public health emergencies, Congress should take steps to diversify the manufacturing and supply of critical raw materials; support reuse and reprocessing technologies; invest in developing new products and data standards to detect shortages early; and increase end-user inventories, AHA told the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs.
