Addressing Inequities in COVID-19 Vaccine Administration Efforts

As COVID-19 vaccines roll out across the nation, individuals and families heavily impacted by the disease have inequitable access to vaccination opportunities and many distrust the life-saving potential the vaccine presents. The CDC reports just over 5 percent of Black adults and 11 percent of Hispanic adults have been vaccinated compared to more than 60 percent of White adults. Hospital and health system leaders and caregivers must work hard to build trust within these communities and engage in strategies that will be effective in overcoming vaccine hesitancy.
