Over 57 million rural Americans depend on their hospital as an important source of care as well as a critical component of their area's economic and social fabric. Location, size, workforce, payment and access to capital challenge small or rural hospitals and the communities they serve. Collaborating with state and regional hospital associations and with advice from its member council, the Section tracks the issues, develops policies and identifies solutions to our most pressing problems.

The Illinois Rural Community Care Organization (IRCCO) was approved in 2015 as a Medicare shared savings accountable care organization (ACO) Track 1. IRCCO was one of 41 ACO Investment Models (AIM) funded by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation in 2016.

Senate Deal Reached to End Government Shutdown

Over the weekend, senators reached a deal to reopen the government. The agreement includes a three-bill, full-year spending package for 1) the Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration, 2) the Legislative Branch, and 3) the Defense Department construction projects and the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as a short-term continuing resolution to extend funding for the rest of the government until Jan. 30, 2026.
