AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack opened the 2024 AHA Leadership Summit in San Diego discussing the similarities of the U.S. Navy Seals to the hospital field in its commitment to operational flexibility, team cohesion, cultural awareness, use of advanced technology, and physical and mental resilience.

“Innovation takes place everywhere,” Pollack said. “So many of the advancements and modern techniques that are improving the patient care experience today originate within the walls of a hospital and drive innovative care transformation.”

Pollack also cited the unpredictable challenges the hospital field currently faces, including an uncertain election year, the political environment, and policies on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. He shared how the AHA continues to work on behalf of the field including holding commercial insurers accountable for damaging policies, bolstering cybersecurity defenses, stabilizing the financial situation of America’s hospitals and health systems, and securing their long-term ability to serve their communities.
