The societal factors that influence health are a key part of the US health care system’s transformation. The way we are delivering care is changing. The focus is moving from individual health to population health. And, this move involves advancing a more holistic approach to health and how to achieve it. In addition, our goals and incentives are shifting. We are no longer just aiming to treat the sick, we want patients and communities achieve wellness. And we want to move towards health equity, where all individuals can achieve their highest potential for health.

As a health care system, if we are committed to creating equitable health and well-being for our patients and communities, we have to be strategically addressing the societal factors that influence health for our patients and communities.
