Fundraising Up at Med Schools, Teaching Hospitals

Fundraising at U.S. medical schools and teaching hospitals increased more than 7 percent in 2014, continuing a recovery trend from the low-giving years of the recession, according to a survey by the Association of American Medical Colleges.

The 2014 Annual Development Survey analyzed data from 139 AAMC-member institutions reporting development program activity for 2013–2014.

Of the average total philanthropic support by individual donors received in 2014, less than 20 percent came from alumni or staff of an institution. Instead, 80.9 percent of the contributions came from other—unaffiliated—individuals.
