Educational and Networking Opportunities
The American Hospital Association’s Annual Membership Meeting offers trustees an excellent opportunity to gain perspectives that will help us continue to build a better health care system for the future. The meeting, to be held May 1–4 in Washington, D.C., features some of America’s most influential political, policy, opinion and health care leaders and four special sessions just for hospital and health system trustees.
On Sunday, Jamie Orlikoff, president, Orlikoff & Associates Inc., and senior consultant to the AHA’s Center for Healthcare Governance, examines the disruptive innovations changing health care and how consumers interact with providers, as well as the governance implications.
On Monday, Center for Healthcare Governance President John Combes, M.D., will facilitate a panel discussion about emerging governance structures that facilitate community health improvement from the Center’s 2015 Blue Ribbon Panel project analyzing Foster G. McGaw Prize winners.
Tuesday morning kicks off with a special breakfast and political update just for trustees. The New York Times national political correspondent Jonathan Martin will take a break from the campaign trail to share insights and predictions about the 2016 elections.
Later that morning, JoAnn McNutt from Nygren Consulting will moderate a panel discussion focusing on the business case for bringing more women onto boards. The panel will feature former Center and AHA Chairman Rick de Filippi, and AHA board members Constance Howes (women’s health adviser at Care New England Health System) and Kimberly McNally, R.N., (trustee at University of Washington Medicine).
In addition to the special sessions for trustees, your annual meeting registration includes three interactive federal forums, in which AHA leaders will discuss the current political landscape and what it means for hospitals and health care.
You’ll also hear from nationally recognized leaders like National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial and media leaders like “Fox News” anchor Megyn Kelly and Jane Pauley. In addition, Politico’s chief White House correspondent Mike Allen, the ultimate D.C. insider, will host a deep dive exploring who’s up and who’s down in the race to the White House.
