White House Creates Plan to Fight Resistant Bacteria

The White House recently issued a five-year plan to fight antibiotic- resistant bacteria. "The National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria" outlines steps to slow the emergence of resistant bacteria and prevent the spread of resistant infections; strengthen national surveillance efforts to fight resistance; advance development and use of rapid and innovative diagnostic tests to identify and characterize resistant bacteria; accelerate basic and applied research and development for new antibiotics, other therapeutics and vaccines; and improve international collaboration and capacities for antibiotic-resistance prevention, surveillance, control, and antibiotic research and development.
